Angel Rivera Named October Distinguished Alumnus
At the October meeting of the Board of Trustees, Klein Oak graduate Angel Rivera was honored as the Distinguished Klein ISD Alumni. Board Trustee Georgan Reitmeier nominated Mr. Rivera for this honor.
Mr. Rivera's family moved to the Klein area 30 years ago after living in Germany and Killeen, TX. While heading into high school at the time, Klein quickly began to feel like home for Mr. Rivera and his family.
“When I got the call that I was being honored, I was just blown away because I get to come to many board meetings, and I get to see the distinguished alumni who have come before me,” Mr. Rivera said. “I am honored that I was chosen to be among them.”
While at Klein Oak, Mr. Rivera discovered his love for architectural and mechanical design. Mr. Rivera was even awarded “Outstanding Commercial Design” for his grocery store design of Randalls at the 1996 Klein Oak Senior Awards.
Mr. Rivera was also a standout athlete on Klein Oak’s football team. While playing on the team, Mr. Rivera learned the meaning of teamwork, discipline, perseverance, and enthusiasm from Coach Smith during his pivotal years.
“We are so proud when our graduates return to work with our next generation of Klein leaders,” Klein ISD Board Trustee Georgian Reitmeier said.
After graduating high school, Mr. Rivera continued to pursue his love for architectural design. He is currently a Senior Associate and Senior Project Manager with Stantec and has had a role in many commercial projects.
He has also been an active member of the Klein Family in many other ways, volunteering for career days, Day of Design for District Innovation challenges, and hosting job shadows at Stantec.
“The job shadows have been my favorite because there have been students who have come and job shadowed me, and I have them do different stations throughout the day to see everything that we do at Stantec,” Mr. Rivera said. “We’ve been able to hire some students straight out of high school as interns before they go to college.”
One of his most recent projects is right here in Klein ISD. Mr. Rivera has dedicated his time and talents to developing the new Dance and Gym additions at Klein Collins.
In addition to his most recent contributions, Mr. Rivera has served as a committed Career and Technical Education Advisory Council member since 2013. This year, he has been named a Klein Education Foundation Board Director.
We are so blessed to have alumni like Mr. Angel Rivera in Klein ISD. Congratulations, Mr. Rivera, for all you have accomplished and for being named the Klein ISD Distinguished Alumni for October 2023!
