Cosmetology I Lab, Cosmetology II Lab, Cosmetology Careers

Cosmetology is a two-year program for junior and senior year only designed to teach students the profession of the beauty culture. Each day one class period is devoted to classroom work for the study of cosmetology theory. Two class periods are devoted to practice in the salon to increase each student’s manipulative skills. Cosmetology Careers is an extended day after school 8th period in order to complete the required state hours. Srs will need to provide their own transportation. Students are required to fill out a course approval form and pay the required fees associated with these programs. To be accepted into the Cosmetology II and Careers course a student must have a minimum of 480-500 hours, pass the Cosmetology I course and pay the required fees associated with the 2nd year program.

At the end of the two-year program the students will have fulfilled the 1000–hour requirement to take the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) examination to become a licensed hairstylist. Once the required hours are met, TDLR requires a written exam fee of approximately $50.00 and a practical exam fee of $72.00. The written exam must be passed before applying for the practical exam. Students eligible for the exam are responsible for the exam fees. Once the student has passed both portions, they will be responsible for their license fee of $50.00.

Occupational opportunities are hairstylist, platform artist, nail care specialists, skin care specialists, manager of a beauty supply, salon owner or color specialists. This is a very rewarding profession that requires a pleasing personality, communication skills and the stamina in order to be successful.
