Philharmonic Orchestra |
Designed for students to acquire, refine, & expand foundation skills and apply them toward solid string orchestra literature. While performance is the orientation of this class, learning and application of orchestral balance, phrasing, nuance, understanding, following baton technique, and individual to group responsibility is the main focus( in a challenging yet fun environment). Our Semester I holiday concert may offer exposure to full orchestra. A degree of after school rehearsals is expected (particularly Semester II). |

Symphony Orchestra |
Designed to apply students, who demonstrate a high level of foundational and technical skills, to challenging string and full orchestra literature. Semester two (especially) a weekly after school sectional for each instrument (usually 45 minutes long) plus a two hour after school rehearsal (day to be arranged) will be expected of all members (and directors) to continue our tradition of fine concert and competition schedules. Rehearsals are more intense yet very rewarding experience is offered and felt by members. All-Region Orchestra Audition is highly encouraged. Participation in the KISD Solos and Ensemble Contest is required. Semester II, this group will participate in UIL Contest. Students unable to maintain the required commitment of practice or time demands may be moved to the Philharmonic Class following consolations. |

Chamber Orchestra |
Designed for students who demonstrate a very high level of foundation and technical skills. This class will provide exposure to formidable literature at an accelerated pace. Comprised mainly of qualifying Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors, the students placed in this class will demonstrate a superior level of self-motivation, practice, as well as focus and leadership skills, in daily class rehearsals. Participation in the KISD Solo and Ensemble Contest is required. Another requirement of this class is to audition for All-Region Orchestra. All members are expected to attend provided All-Region audition workshops. Consistent, high-level work ethic, with maintained commitment (to printed sectional and rehearsal schedules) must be demonstrated for retention in this class. Semester I, this class may submit an entry to the TMEA Honor String Orchestra Competition. Semester II, this group will combine with the "Symphonic Orchestra and Band" classes as a Full Orchestra (for UIL Contest and, possibly, TMEA Honor Full Orchestra Competition). Additionally, the Chamber Orchestra class may enter UIL Contest as a String Orchestra. |
