Announcements for Clubs and OrganizationS
The Spring Blood Drive will be held May 22nd.  We will begin signing up for times today. If you are 16 and at least 120 lbs or 17 and at least 110 pounds, you can donate. Stop by the table at lunch.  Don't forget that your donation of a pint of blood will help save 5 lives. 

All HSTE II & III students for 08-09, there is a mandatory meeting on Tuesday, May 13th in the teaching theatre for you and your parents. If you have not picked up your paperwork, please come by room 301b and get it. See you Tuesday

On behalf of the Klein Oak High School Full Orchestra, Mr. De Jong and Mr. Rapacki would like to congratulate all 64 members for winning a special award trophy at the UIL Full Orchestra Concert & Sightreading Contest this past week at KCHS. From the six adjudicators, they received four superior and two excellent ratings. Way to go KO Full Orchestra! We are proud of you.

Wow! Congrats! Klein Oak Orchestra students earned the most "Outstanding Performer Awards" over any other KISD school at the 2008 Klein ISD Solo and Ensemble Contest this year. KO Orchestra students also earned a record number of 1st Division ratings at the contest. The students recognized with the special "O.P. Awards" are:

The Chick-Fil-A on 2920 near Kuykendahl is having a Spirit day in honor of Coach Mike Konicki Saturday. We are encouraging everyone to eat there so that 20% of the total sales for Saturday will be donated to the Konicki family. Chick-Fil-A also welcomes anyone that would like to volunteer for an hour on Saturday to wipe down tables as they expect a great deal of business on this day.

The Annual Dance Concert, featuring dancers from levels 2, 3 and 4, Strutters as well as others, will be held at 7:00pm in the KO Auditorium.  Admission is $5.00 with children under 6 and over 65 free.  We hope to see you there.

Klein Oak, it's Logic Time!!! The Extreme Logic Club is having a mandatory meeting TOMORROW MORNING at 6:40 am in Ms. Schweiger's Room 270. We will discuss the Teddy Bear Drive and the Logic Tournament.

Attention Spanish Club Members, we will be having a very important meeting before school at 7:00 am and after school at 2:45 pm this Thursday in Room 182 to discuss our end of the year activities. See you there!!

Your Panther baseball team faces Lufkin in a bi-district playoff series this weekend at New Caney:            Game 1 is Friday at 7 pm.
Game 2 is Saturday at 3 pm.
Game 3, if needed, will be 30 minutes after game 2.

Attention All KO: The Sophomore Class will be having a Car Wash tomorrow April 26th at Wal-Mart on 249 and Spring Cypress from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. Cars are $5.00 and Truck are $7.00. YOU SHOP- WE WASH! Please come out and support the class of 2010.
Also, a reminder to all sophomores that have Car Wash tickets: Please turn in money and ticket stubs to Mrs. Stuckey in room 198 by Monday.

Attention Seniors in National Honor Society: Your in-school and community service hours are due by Wednesday, April 30. If you cannot attend the meeting, you may turn your hours in to Mrs. Christian in Rm. 277 or Mrs. Wicker in Rm. 289 any time before April 30.

NHS Induction is Monday, April 28. All new inductees must be present for the practice at 6:30 Monday morning.  Current members can help set up immediately after school; those who are helping at Induction should plan to be at school at 6:15 Monday evening.

Need help to pass the Math TAKS?  Mu Alpha Theta will be tutoring all week before and after school to prepare students for the TAKS Test next week.  Stop by for some last minute tutoring before the big day ~ Room 277 for underclassmen and Room 275 for Exit Level.

We had a record-breaking year; we will be able to donate $7000.00 to the Make A Wish Foundation to grant a child their wish. We almost doubled our donation from last year and next year will be even bigger and better! Way to go Panthers!!

Congratulations to Klein Oak High School Art students who traveled to U of H / Clear Lake for our annual state level art contest called VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event) on Saturday April 12, 2008. The following 8 students received first place medals at the State level:  Allison Burchart, Candice Cantu, Liz Gearhart, Grace Gossen, Michelle Nguyen, Kailey Smith, Becca Waskowitz, and Kimmy Young.  The Art Department also congratulates our 3 scholarship winners from VASE:  Michael Hall won a set of prismacolors and both Michelle Nugyen and Kimmy Young won $100.00 from the scholarship drawing competition. Lastly, Michelle Nguyen’s mixed media piece was chosen to be in the Gold Seal Exhibition. Her piece is one of only 122 pieces from State VASE that will be in shown around the state for 1 year.

Any student planning on participating in or trying out for athletics, cheerleading, or drill team next school year will need a physical. Congratulations to the Varsity Tennis Team for taking Third Place in the District Tennis Tournament last week. We won third in both the Boy's and Girl's Divisions. Allison Burckhartt won third in Girl's Singles, Sean Burtt won third in Boy's Singles and Andrew Gencer and Scott Luettgen won third in Boy's Doubles. Way to go Oak!

Vanessa Deocampo and Mai Le won first in Girl's B Doubles; Andrea Cadavid and Kelly Phan took third in Girl's A Doubles; Lynh Le took second in Girl's B Singles; Kat Aaslestad and Tyler Warren were Consolation Champion in Mixed A Doubles; Sean Burtt took third in Boy's A Singles;and Blake Hagelston and Brett Hunter won second in Boy's A Doubles. Friday afternoon the boys’ varsity soccer soundly defeated Round Rock Stony Point in the Area playoff game. Alex Politis, Jesus Morteo, and Tony Rocha each had a goal. Brice Coffer and Josh Corley played excellent defense to keep Round Rock off the scoreboard. Good job panthers.

The Boys’ Track Team was 3rd at the Klein Relays with 115 points:
They will run at the District Meet on April 8 and 9, 2008 at Klein High School:  Go Oak!

Sophomores & Juniors:  The National Association for College Admissions Counseling is hosting a National College Fair at George R. Brown Convention Center on Sunday, April 8, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.  This is a great way to jump start getting information for college planning.  Stop by counseling to preview list of colleges attending.

Purdue University will host "Preview Purdue" - an informational evening program - on April 7th at The Shell Learning Center in The Woodlands. All students who are interested in Purdue and their families are invited to attend. 

Texas A&M College of Architecture will host a summer camp for students who are interested in a career in Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Construction and Visual Design (which would include video game design, 3-D animation, visual computer programming and similar visual communications occupations.   If you are interested in attending, please stop by the counseling office -- participation will be limited to 64 students and will be selected on a competitive basis.

Klein Oak PTO has done it again!  
Two more teachers were surprised this month with the news that they were winners of the “Extreme Makeover – Classroom 2nd Edition" !  
Mrs. Taylor Glover, Health and English teacher, will be receiving a little help for her old temporary building classroom that was formerly used as an ISS classroom.   
Mrs. Lucille Rowley’s Cosmetology classroom and salon area will receive an updated color scheme and decorative accessories.  
Congratulations to these two deserving teachers and their students.  And thanks to the PTO volunteers that make this possible!

Students: On Saturday, March 29th, the Junior Class will be hosting our annual Oakfest celebration here at KO.  Oakfest is an all-day festival featuring music, food, vendors, and much more in an attempt to bring the community to KO to raise money for our clubs.  But we need your help to spread the word so please tell your parents, your co-workers, your church, your friends, everyone you know to come out to KO.  And don't forget there are Oakfest t-shirts on sale at all lunches for $10 as well as $1 raffle tickets for a chance to win digital cameras, a Nintendo Wii, or Guitar Hero games.

Klein Oak student, Donald B’Oris had an outstanding showing at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Wednesday. He placed 6th in Sale out of 2500 entries with his 3rd Class heavy weight Charolais. Congratulations, Donnie!

Anyone wishing to take the ASVAB test on March 27 needs to sign up in the Counseling Office.  The ASVAB is an aptitude test used to help students with career possibilities.

Any student planning to take a dual credit course over the summer needs to see Mrs. Healey in the Counseling Office.  Summer registration opens March 17.
